Where Were You? (Internet Memorials)
Marbel, Lasrer Etching, Steel, 4"x12", 2014

As part of my research of other memorials that existed for the attacks of September 11th, I found numerous websites and blogs that documented the events. One of the most interesting was the common experience of finding forums where people were encouraged to express their own experience of the events of that day. Curiously, many of the people who recount the events on these websites were their very young at the time, lived in communities far from the events, or both.

I found these stories interesting, but also realized they were their own memorials themselves. I took quotes from these sites on the Internet and had them laser etched into marble, so that they could be memorialized in a way that made this connection more apparent.
