9/11 Memorials
Digital Photographs, 2012-Present

For several years I have been researching the memorialization of the attacks on the World Trade Center that occurred on September 11th, 2001. Memorials exist all across the country, in fact the entire world, in great numbers. I was curious how people memorialized this event, and how it may have differed from the memorialization of other events.

One aspect of these memorials I found interesting was the usage of steel beams recovered from the site incorporated into the memorials. I decided to travel the country and visit as many of these memorials as I could, and I documented them as I visited each one. Individuals and communities, who created them without government funding, erected most of these memorials.

I am hoping to be able to visit every single memorial created and document, which, in all likelihood, will take a lifetime to complete.
